With gatherings spanning more than two decades, alumna and former faculty member Sara Chilton’s book club has been her avenue to mentor women. The group has read a wide range of Christian classics.

Alumni-Digest-Article-September-2026-2Alumni Sara Chilton’s book gathering, called Second Saturday Sisters, has met monthly since 2000 to read and discuss books on Christian living and spirituality. Describing the gathering as a “mentoring fellowship,” Chilton said the group’s intention is more than just meeting to discuss the latest authors and books.

“We want to enlarge our circle of saints to also include those who lived in earlier centuries,” she explained. “We want them to speak their truths to us and in that way broaden our perspectives on the Christian family to which we belong. We believe that this, along with our group fellowship mentoring, will sweeten and deepen us to meet the demands of our contemporary culture.”

The aim, says Chilton, who graduated from Trevecca with an English degree in 1965 and later served as the University’s curriculum librarian, is to be spiritually transformed. “Our major goal is learning how to love Jesus Christ more and how to make time in our busy lives to hear him,” she said.
